Back to Showing with HJ Fox Summer Fest
After all of the COVID craziness shutting down horse shows, we were so excited to get back to showing in June with HJ Fox Summer Fest at Georgia International Horse Park! We love attending HJ Fox’s shows for a whole host of reasons and, as usual, they didn’t disappoint. Here are some major highlights from an exciting and successful weekend finally back at the shows...
Reagan Fisher and her new mount, Don’t Tell Daddy, had a great first horse show! They earned excellent ribbons all weekend in the Junior Beginner Walk/Trot division and earned a hugely exciting 2nd place in the Wildflower Farms Beginner Equitation Challenge! Reagan and “Felix” are sure to make a great team.
Annie Legare Schroder and the fabulous After Dark also tackled their first ever horse show. They, too, earned great placings in the Junior Beginners, including a win in the equitation class on Saturday! “Flicka” was a star for her first ever show with a little after years of success with her owner, Lily.
Lainey Moore’s Pretty In Pink attended her first jumping show and had huge success in the Open Crossrails with trainer Maddy Brown in the irons. “Molly” and Maddy earned Champion out of 16 on Sunday with a 1st and 2nd over fences! Lainey also got to show her girl, earning a pair of 2nds in the Open Model classes and having successful rides in a couple of huge flat classes. It was a big step for them both and they handled the weekend beautifully!
Lily Campbell and her new horse, Mahalo, rounded out the group of horses and riders attending their first shows together! “Pudgie” had a great start to the weekend in the Fox Schooling Hunters with Maddy, earning good ribbons over fences and a big hack win out of 16. Then, she and Lily really put the pieces together in their TIP Special Hunters to earn top ribbons over fences all weekend and a 2nd in the hack in the rain. Their biggest success of the weekend, though, was likely their 4th place finish out of 25+ in the all day Sunday classic!
Audrey White and her long-time partner Golden Boy really laid it down in the Olympic Stadium in the Pre-Children’s Hunters. They earned a big win over fences on Sunday and secured a Reserve Championship in the stacked division! They also had a beautiful round to secure 4th place in the Algin Realty Hunter Classic out of 25+ entries all day. It was great to see Audrey and “Peyton” continue their success from Derby Day right into the stadium!
Grace Hill and her Caught Red Handed stepped it up to the 3’ in their Children’s Hunters and laid down some beautiful trips. They won their first class at the new height and brought home Reserve Champion both days! “Heat" also jumped his heart out as he and Grace put in a slick round to take 3rd out of 24 in the Barrow Vet Handy Hunter Classic on Saturday.
Emma Hill and her mare Marrying Kind were speedy all weekend over in jumperland, winning two classes for Champion in the Low Child/Adult Jumpers! They also snagged a 3rd in the TIP Jumper Classic in their Sunday whites. Emma and “Annie” are so often the ones to watch against the clock!
Trainer Maddy Brown and her best guy Topsail went double clear and quick as could be for a win in the $250 Meter Jumper class on Saturday, and had the winning time but an unfortunate rail in the jump off of the Welcome Stake. A bobble at fence 2 in the Sunday Mini Prix left Maddy with a broken hand, but she and “Arli” finished the course anyway with just four faults.
